Scouts Education Programme at Plantasia


Creative Challenge - Plantasia can offer a wide range of craft Activities designed for your pack. Choose from the following options or call 01827 713438 to discuss your individual requirements. Glass painting, quilling, art straws or model making, Aspects of this session may also be used towards the Craft Activity Badge.

The Community Challenge - Area 1 - Exploring the local community. Visit Plantasia and see how we work as a tourist attraction, interview the members of staff, to find out exactly what their job involves and talk to our customers to see if we are providing the service that they expect. Is Plantasia value for money? Do we need to do things differently? Display space can be provided if needed to display the finished project. Area 2 - Community Service. We always have a number of environmental projects happening around the Wild Walks. Environmental projects may be anything from clearing a pond, litter picking the site, erecting bird or bat boxes, tidying up parts of the site or planting trees. Please call 01827 713438 to see what projects are currently available. This is also suitable for Section B of the Global Conservation Badge.

Forester Activity Badge - A session based around trees and their importance in the environment. Learn to identify different types of trees using identification keys and what the are commercially used for. How to care for a tree from preparing the soil to managing a natural woodland, looking at the tools that may be involved and the conservation techniques such as coppicing and hedge laying.

Global Conservation Activity Badge - Section A - Individual Local Conservation. Take part in a recycling relay and learn all about the benefit of recycling, create a recycling diary to see exactly who is the biggest waster. Carry out a survey of the wild walks recording all the wildlife that can be seen.

Naturalist Activity Badge - Plantasia is the ideal place to help your pack gain this badge. We have many habitats that can be studied on a seasonal basis including woodland, grassland, ponds, streams and hedgerows.

Group Awards Badges: The Environment Award - We can help you with this award in two different ways. We have environmental project that are happening in the park at most times of the year that you can get involved in, or we can visit your club house and help you create a wild area within your club house grounds with the addition of bird feeders, bird boxes, bat boxes and log piles.
